Following last night's AGM, Upton Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Tom Marsland has been appointed as 1st XI Captain for the 2016. Having started out as a junior at Upton, Tom quickly progressed through the sides and reached 1st XI level at the tender age of 15. Tom also boasts Premier League experience with both Oxton and Chester Boughton Hall, as well as representing Cheshire in their 'Development XI’ together with overseas experience having played for Albury in Australia.
Speaking after his appointment, Tom said “I'm absolutely honoured to captain the club that taught me the game of cricket aged 7, seeing my name up on the board in the bar along with names that I looked up to growing up such as Gary Dixon, Lee Dixon and Nick Rivett (to name a few) will fill me with immense amounts of pride. I'd like to thank Andy Roberts for handing me over a very strong and very settled 1st XI and I will be doing everything I can to continue Andy's great work and strive for promotion to Division 1. The club is in such a good place at the moment and I'm excited to get going and try and contribute everything I can on and off the field.”
Tom is working very closely with Cricket Chairman, Graeme Keenan to ensure the squad are in the best possible position to challenge for promotion next season.
We wish Tom the best of luck in this exciting time for Up[ton Cricket Club.
