As we draw near to the start of the 2015 season, we are pleased to announce another new signing to bolster the 1st XI squad. Having worked tirelessly over the winter having secured the services of all of last seasons squad, plus recruiting top class Kiwi; Ben Cant and welcome back to the UCG former Caldy, Northern and Bootle batsmen; Richie Cowderoy, Andy Roberts has weaved his magic and snaffled former Caldy 1st XI skipper Rich Battersby.
Rich joins us with a wealth of experience having skippered Caldy since 2005, albeit with a 2 year break in the middle of that spell. Rich is a fine bowler and since 2003 has taken over 400 wickets at an average of just over 18, and can claim some high profile Test players amongst his victims in the form of Indians Murali Kartik, Sunil Joshi and West Indian skipper Jimmy Adams in a competition that was at the time, full of international, first class and county cricketers.
Commented on the latest addition, Andy Roberts said "When I heard Rich might be considering leaving Caldy, I gave him a call as I believe his ability with the ball, along with being a great character in the dressing room, will add proven experience to compliment what we already have. Rich has nearly 20 years first team cricket experience to call on and I'm delighted Rich has chosen to come to Upton this season."
We look forward to welcoming Rich, along with partner Katy and their 2 daughters; Charlotte and Abigail to Upton and we're sure you'll be a great addition both on and off the field.
