Your weekend preview

1st XI vs HALE BARNS (H)
Date/time: Sat 27 April | 12pm
Preview: Matt Owen goes into his third season as 1st XI captain on the back of an extremely productive Winter which has seen a number of new (and the odd old) faces come through the door. Making their UCC debut are Joe Williams & Mike Yeates who join us from Barrow & Kingsley respectively, together with a return for Chris McArthur who makes his first Upton appearance since 2018. Hale Barns will be looking to atone for last year which saw them relegated from Division 2, albeit just three points from safety. The visitors welcome back overseas player Josh Agar who was with them in 2022 when he scored 895 league runs (second in the Division).
Previous meeting: 6 August 2022: Hale Barns won by 5 wickets having restricted Upton to 144/9 (Dan Owen 29), and knocked off the runs in the 35th over

2nd XI vs Ashton-on-Mersey (a)
Date/time: Sat 27 April | 12pm
Preview: Rich Battersby takes over the captaincy of the 2s as they head to Ashton-on-Mersey looking to start their campaign with a victory. Battersby will add considerable strength to the side with his wealth of 1st XI experience over the years, together with having taken 32 wickets for the 1s last season. The skipper is able to call upon Lancashire Thunder plater Sophie Morris, to compliment a bowling attack which includes Graeme Keenan, Tom Wood & Karan Patel. The hosts will be looking to go one better than last season when they finished 3rd in the division.
Previous meeting: 29 July 2023: Ashton-on-Mersey won by 5 wickets having bowled Upton out for just 137 (Sam Talbot 53) and got home in the 35th

3rd XI vs OXTON (H)
Date/time: Sat 27 April | 12.30pm
Preview: Ian Sharrock leads the 3s in their local derby against Oxton on the back of strong finish to the 2023 season which saw them pull away from relegation troubles. The skipper is able to select a side very much resembling a 2nd XI which features the likes of Ian Potter, Luke & George Williams, Nick Cockrell, Dave Stewart and the clubs leading wicket taker Simon McGowan. The visitors are new into the league having gained promotion last season finishing 2nd in the Cheshire Cricket League Division A and will be looking to start the season strongly.
Previous meeting: 1 September 2018: Upton won by 8 wickets with Oxton scoring 170/8 (Ian Sharrock 3/26, Phil McGowan 3/35) and Upton reaching the target after 35 overs (Graeme McGowan 106*)

4th XI vs Cholmondeley 2s (a)
Date/time: Sat 27 April | 1pm
Preview: New 4s skipper Phil Wood will be looking to improve on last seasons 4th place finish and push for promotion starting with a trip to the picturesque Cholmondoley. The skipper is able to call on Rob Chapman, Faiz Ahmed & Clive Moore, all 3rd XI regulars last season as they go in search of victory. The hosts don’t appear to have had an active 2nd XI in 2023 but in 2022 they finished bottom of this division so will be looking to make improvements this time around.
Previous Meeting: 13 August 2022: Cholmondeley conceded
