As a memorable sporting 2015 comes to a conclusion for Gary Dixon, he has one more major milestone to reach and he will do so this coming Sunday (4th October) when he joins the prestigious 100 Marathon Club.
Combining his passions for cricket and running, Gary ran his first marathon in 1999 at the prestigious New York marathon in a time of 3h 56m38s
Some 16 years later he is set to reach the amazing achievement having also completed a remarkable 25 marathons in 2015.
Along the way, Gary has inspired and run alongside several UCC members as they have toiled with the 26.2 mile distance including John Winder, Darrin Clark & Jez Lamb and it is testament to the man that he has left many a younger man in his shadows!
Speaking ahead of Sunday, Gary commented "I really can't wait for Sunday as it is something I have worked very hard to reach particularly in the last 2 years when I have completed 46 marathons. Combining my running (including 5am training runs) with my cricket hasn't been easy as at my age it is very easy to pick up niggles and injuries. So I have been really lucky to stay injury free.
It's a real pity that Mr Winder & the Devonshire Express (AKA Darrin Clark) won't be plodding the streets of Chester and North Wales with me on Sunday as we have shared many marathons together - including the great Johnny Winders debut in Amsterdam 2005.
Lots of great memories along the way and lots of pain and suffering - but providing I finish on Sunday - it will all be worthwhile"
The Liverpool Echo have also run an article on Gary's fantastic achievement which can be read HERE.
From all at UCC we wish Gary the best of luck.
