In the 1st round of the u13 National club competition Upton entertained a good side from Wirral CC.
Put into bat on a slow track Upton were indebted to Ryan Finn who after an early escape batted well and was quick to punish anything dropped short. Ryan eventually retired on 34 having pulled his final delivery for 6.
Some good partnerships followed and Upton finished on 105-6 off their 20 overs.
Wirral made a quick start and several boundaries in the first few overs had them well above the required rate, however Upton kept their calm and a couple of wickets slowed the rate. All the Upton bowlers bowled well and chances were taken when they came. Wirral continued to chase but fortunately for Upton could never quite get back up to the rate required and their innings closed 20 runs short.
