Upton U9 A's v Wirral U9 A's_ League Match 5
Thursday 4th June _ 6pm Start _ UCG
Weather Conditions: Warm Some Sun / Light Cloud Dry Light Wind.

Upton U9 A's 361 _ Wirral U9 A's 184 _ Upton win by 177 runs.

Hello again for League Match 5 after last weeks excellent win in our top of the table clash with New Brighton. This a rearranged fixture at the request of Wirral.

Weather much more like cricket weather.... barmy army (parents) were very quick to settle down with their refreshments in hand.
Wirral were a mixed team of some older experienced players and some very small players...

At first 2 players short but the Wirral coach, Mr Walker, who is a PE teacher at the local Junior School in Greasby spotted Pippa and Rebecca in their school colours and with the kind help of their mum they rushed off to change into cricket whites and were recruited for the evening to play for Wirral...well done girls !

It quickly transpired that this game had an extra dimension to it as the Wirral coach (Mr Walker) was the PE Teacher at Greasby and he knew most of our team very well !....lots of friendly and funny banter (sledging) flew back and forth from Mr Walker and our team (his pupils from Greasby school) ensued through out the proceedings....

Hattie & Phoebe captained the team, won the toss and decided to put Wirral into bat....good choice again.

Becoming a great habit this and picking up from the last 3 games now, Aidan once again took two wickets in his first over and it seemed to put us on the front foot from the start.
George continued with 2 caught in his first over and we had 4 wickets in our first two overs...

We went on to take 8 bowled, 1 c&b, 5 catches & 1 run out... a total of 15 wickets ...Aidan, Phoebe and Hattie all taking double wicket maiden overs and Tom, Nathan, Thomas and Will taking maiden wickets....Wirral scored 38 runs and 6 NB's in total.

Thomas & George opened our batting and hit 3 x 6's and 3 x 4's (with lots of singles) a 42 run haul to start our reply...

We batted very consistently and only lost 2 wickets in all...

In total we hit 11 x 4's and 12 x 6's (both by Nathan who top scored on 18) ....The pick of the 6's from Nathan who hit a full toss over his shoulder for a huge 6 to whoops from the crowed.

We ended up on 4 more runs than the opposition but our bowling performance was what did the trick for us....their fielding was some of the best I have seen from any team in the last 3 years....this goes to show what a great all around effort we put in to win by 32 runs...

Their was an umpiring controversy when three opposition fielders crashed into the stumps (without the ball being anywhere near being first there...without any stumps standing it was not possible to judge a run out...but besides that our batsman was in the crease anyway)...just wanted to clear that up!

This weeks star performer was ... Nathan with his five 6's (37runs) and two wickets, an excellent effort following on from his near miss last week.
Also Nathan took the brunt of Mr Walkers jokes and this only seemed to egg him on to hit more great shots !

Well worth a mention....Aiden's consistent opening bowling....Max taking two catches....Thomas 30runs and only submitting 1 run bowling.

Star Performer :) Nathan...well done.

Well done all once again...

Many thanks to Mr Walker (Coach) and all of the Wirral Team as they were excellent.
We all enjoyed Mr Walkers funny comments through out....
Very well done Rebecca and Pippa for your great sporting gesture and fine skills for Wirral...

Well done Upton A's ... thanks parents for your continued great support.

Keep practicing at home.
